ABOUT ME

I have been shooting still and moving images since I was young. My folks gave me a 35mm camera when I was 10 and I have been more or less taken by the craft of making images ever since. I spent my high school years learning video production at Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts in Edmonton, while also volunteering at local TV stations there. Later, I moved out west and shot short films and directed theatrical productions while earning a BFA from Simon Fraser University. Since then, I have worked extensively in the Vancouver film and television industry as a set decorator, camera assistant and photographer.

I have over 15 years of professional experience behind the camera. I am skilled at studio and location lighting, set decoration and post-production photo editing. My work has been published in several fine art photography books and numerous climbing and outdoor adventure journals. My commercial work has been featured on the cover of Lurzer’s Advertising Archive.

My mission is to bring out the best qualities of my subjects, and create beautiful images that hold people’s attention. My commitment to you is to produce images that you are proud to showcase.

When I’m not doing photography-related stuff, I enjoy rock climbing, trail running, ski-touring and adventure biking. My latest trips can be seen on my Instagram account: Michael J.P. Hall.

I also love fabricating useful things to make life better for me and my friends. You can check out my alternative Instagram account – MJ’s Projects.
